What is Hypnotherapy ?

Firstly it is worth noting that Hypnotherapy bears no resemblance to anything that you may have seen on the stage or T.V. This is purely for entertainment, hypnosis cannot force you to act or do anything against your will or out of character.

Hypnotherapy is a very natural state, in fact you are probably in a state of hypnosis several times a day. For instance when driving your car on a regular route, you often find that you reach your destination and cannot remember driving most of the journey, or when you are totally absorbed in a favourite television programme, these are both instances when you are in a state of hypnosis.


At the very least you are in hypnosis twice a day, just before you fall asleep and just before you are fully awake. This is what it feels like when you are under hypnosis, a very relaxed state somewhere between sleep and wakefulness.

Going back to the car journey, you are able to do this because your subconscious mind has taken over. The subconscious mind deals with memory and learnt patterns of behaviour, and whilst this is very helpful ( we don’t have to consciously think about what muscles to engage, and about putting one foot in front of the other when walking) sometimes the subconscious whilst trying to help and protect us, can get flawed information, which can lead us to take up bad habits or have irrational fears and phobias.

The relaxing, safe process of hypnosis can allow the subconscious to receive and take on new and more helpful messages, to facilitate change .

Treatment usually take place weekly and for approx. one hour to an hour and a quarter, and is of fairly short duration (two to six appointments) although only one issue can usually be worked on at any one time,

Hypnotherapy is useful to treat confidence, anxiety, bad habits, fears and phobias, and weight problems.

I am specifically trained in the Hypno gastric Band procedure, a very effective and safe way to achieve permanent weight loss through changes in attitudes towards food. Client’s have reported that the changes feel natural and weight is lost safely with minimal perceived effort. This is a four treatment package and includes recordings which must be listened to daily to reinforce the new behaviour patterns.
