What is counselling ?
Counselling is a form of talking therapy. People come to counselling for many different reasons, but always when they have difficulties in their lives that are affecting their happiness and wellbeing. These problems can range from bereavement, confidence issues, relationship problems, anxiety and depression, in fact almost anything that is causing unhappiness leaving the client feeling stuck and unable to move forward.
There are many different forms of counselling that you may have heard of such as CBT Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I am able to use an integrated approach using techniques relevant and appropriate for the clients own individuality.
Counselling gives the client a safe and confidential space to address their own issues and difficulties, and is encouraged to explore ways of resolving their difficulties, enabling them to move forward with their lives.
Appointments usually last around fifty minutes and ideally take place weekly, the number of appointments will depend entirely on each client’s unique set of circumstances, and goals. However, the goal of therapy is to facilitate the client finding a permanent and lasting resolution.
Initially, the journey may be emotional as issues and problems are confronted, however this should pass leaving the client with a sense of relief and achievement, feeling positive about their future.
